When to put them on
Winter tires grip better once it stays below 7°C, which is late October in Ottawa. Our winter swap season runs October 1 to November 30; book before the first snow, when every shop in town fills up.
Ontario doesn't require winter tires, but insurers in Ontario must offer a discount if you have them. Quebec requires them from December 1 to March 15, so if you drive in Gatineau, plan for that.
